About Our Delegate
The Delegate is a lifetime resident of Southwest Virginia. He grew up and now resides on a family farm near Tazewell that was first owned by his great grandfather. In this setting Delegate Bowling was taught to work hard to accomplish goals, but to always have compassion and a commitment to care about others.
Delegate Bowling graduated from Tazewell High School in 1966. He attended the Washington County Technical School for two years, graduating in 1968. He attended Southwest Virginia Community College finishing with the first Associate Degree class in 1970. The Delegate earned a Bachelors Degree from Bluefield State College in 1977 and a Masters Degree from Virginia Tech in 1981. Delegate Bowling has completed several post graduate courses.
As a student the Delegate worked full time to pay for his education. He was a COOP student working at General Instrument Corporation as a senior in High School. Delegate Bowling worked full time for Columbus McKinnon Corp. while in Technical School. While a student at SVCC he worked for Davenport Inc.
Upon graduation he worked two years for Vans in Tazewell. In 1972 Delegate Bowling was hired by SVCC in as a full time instructor. Today 34 years later he holds the rank of Full Professor in the Engineering Division. From 2000 to 2006 he served as the Director of the Cisco Academy Training Center. This training center trained teachers in high technology courses throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and other nearby states.
The Delegate served one term on the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors, The Delegate was relected as Supervisor but never served the second term due to being elected to the House of Delegates in a special election on Janurary 3, 2006.
The Delegates parents raised him up with good values and ethics. A commitment to God and his fellow man is exemplified. He has served as an adult Sunday school teacher for over 10 years. Since 2003 he has served as a minister at the Bradshaw Memorial Church near Belfast in Russell County. Delegate Bowling is a member of the Tazewell West Gideons Camp.
